ARRlVED.—September IS. Golden Cross, s.s. (10.40 a.m.), 5,631 tons, G. M. Curtis, - from Los Angeles via north New Zealand ports. Somerset, s.s. (11.30 a.m.), 5,607 tons, C. R. Pilcher, from Liverpool via Panama and north Now Zealand ports. The Storm was duo this afternoon from Wellington to load cargo. It is expected she will be despatched tonight for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The Gale is due on Sunday from Lyttelton to load the next day for Picton and Wanganui via ports. On Tuesday the Calm is from Bluff. She loads a cargo for Wanganui via ports. The Armadale, it was expected, would be clear of lior cargo this afternoon, when she was to sail for Sydney. Tha Waiinarino sails this evening after loading for Auckland via ports. To-day the Opihi was to leave New Plymouth for Wellington and Dunedin. She is due. here on Sunday to load on Monday for Nelson and New Plymouth via ports. The Wingatui has been fixed to load at Auckland about September 23 for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. Cabled news has been received by the Union Company that the . motor tanker Otokia cleared San Pedro on September 10 with fuel oil for Wellington, where she is due on October 5. The motor fishing boat, built at Port Chalmers recently for an Auckland firm, had to shelter at Wellington for several days on account of heavy seas. She reached Whakatane to-day, and expects to arrive at Auckland tomorrow. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Wahine, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.45 this morning, and passengers and mails connected with the south express. NAVIGATION WARNING. The following warning has been broadcast by the Hobart radio station : “ At 7.45 p.m., on Semtember 13, in latitude 41.281 south, longitude 148.3 U oast, the steamer Era passed a floating object, apparently a tree trunk with a charred limb projecting 3ft above tho water.” CANADIAN TRANSPORTER LATE. Unloading operations on the Canadian Transporter at Lyttelton are being delayed as there is insufficient power to work the cranes and the ship’s own gear has had to be put in commission. The vessel is now due here on Tuesday to unload Montreal cargo and load for Halifax. RDAHINE’S ARRIVAL DATE. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Ruahine, from London and Southampton via Wellington, is due at Port Chalmers on September 23 to unload cargo. She then loads here and at Lyttelton, Timaru, Bluff, Wanganui, New Plymouth, and Wellington, sailing from Wellington about October 23 for Homo. THE SOMERSET. The Federal Lino steamer Somerset arrived from Liverpool via ports this morning, and berthed at the Birch street wharf. The vessel has a general merchandise cargo from Pacific Coast ports for discharge here and at Bluff tor which port she will rpobably sail on Monday. The cargo was loaded at Swansea, Newport, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool. She sailed from Liverpool on July 19 and cleared Panama on August 5. Moderate weather prevailed in tho Atlantic and generally fair weather in the Pacific, except during the Inst four days of the voyage, when north-east winds, strong to gale, were encountered.

GOLDEN CROSS ARRIVES. The Oceanic and Oriental Navigation Company’s steamer Golden Cross arrived at Dunedin this morning, and berthed at the Rattray street wharf to discharge her cargo from Pacific Coast ports. The cargo consists of general merchandise, lumber, and case oil. The Golden Cross left Los Angeles on August 1 and experienced line weather until August 19, when she encountered strong south-easterly winds and heavy seas for four days. The weather was fair during the remainder of the voyage. Captain G. M. Curtis is in command of tho Golden Cross, and he has associated with him tho following officers :—Chief officer, Mr W. E. Warnell; second, Mr N. Jacobsen; third, Mr H. Pederson; chief engineer, Mr C. A. Siolund; second, Mr H. V. Brinkerhoff; third Mr F. S. Talbot; fourth, Mr W. IT. Tuttle; wireless operator, Mr A. M.
