BURNS CLUB

A largo number of members and friends were present at tho monthly mooting of tho Dunedin Burns Club, held last, evening in the Pioneers’ Hall. Air G. Currie piesided. ‘As usual, the proceedings opened with a bagpipe selection by Piper W. Budge, after which tho chairman extended a welcome to those present, and stated that since the last meeting the choir and several members of the committee had visited Home and entertained the inmates. Tho weather on that evening had been very boisterous ; yet there was a good muster of singers, ami the appreciation expressed by the residents of the home was more than ample reward for venturing out on such a night. The concert programme was then commenced. Under tho direction of Air E. C. Cooper, tho choir rendered several pleasing items, which won the wholehearted approval of the audience. An acceptable novelty item was an instrumental duet, ‘ Hilo March,’ by Messrs G. Tyrie and M. Maitland. Miss Nancy Goodlet gave a sword dance in a finished manner. During the evening tho audience was given an opportunity for hearty community singing, tho chosen song this month being ‘ Alary.’ This portion of tho entertainment was, as at previous meetings, one of the most popular on the programme. Tho remaining items were:—Song. ‘ Mary , of Argyle,’ Mr J. Brenssoll; duet, ‘ The Birthday Morn,’ Misses Jl. and M. Shrimpton; piano duet, ‘ Scottish Blossoms,’ Misses Slninburv and APLean; song, selected, Air S. Taylor; male quartet. Carry Ale Back to Old Viiginny,’ “The Idlers”; song, ‘The Lass o’ Killeen,’ Mrs E. Alathoson; song, ' Border Ballad,’ Air S. Angel); Scottish reading, ‘Air Pinkerton’s Wooden Log," Airs F. Lawrence. The accompanist was Aliss E. Wright. Tho usual hours dancing was held at the conclusion of tho concert programme.
