COAL SITUATION
PROTECTING DOMINION INTERESTS TARIFF AGREEMENT INVOLVED [From Ouk Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON. September 17. A brief statement ou the coal situation was made in the House to-day by Mr Hansom (Acting Prime Minister). “ It is recognised that the new conditions created in Australia necessitate action for tbo protection of the New Zealand coal producing industry,” said Mr Hansom. “That question, however, is involved in the reciprocal tariff agreement now current between the dominion and tho Commonwealth, no departure from which can bo made without six months’ notice being given. Tho question will shortly bo considered by Cabinet with a view to deciding whether such notice should bo given.”
