THE FERRY SERVICE. \ , The Maori, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.45 this morning, and passengers and mails connected with tho south express. Tho Marino Department advises that the Government steamer Tutanekai will arrive at Dunedin from Wellington via northern lighthouses to-morrow evening. Sho will load stores on Friday and Saturday for southern and West Coast lights. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that tho Hertford will commence her Homeward loading at New Plymouth cm October 28. She will subsequently load at Wanganui, Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, Gisborne, and Auckland. The vessel is to clear Auckland about November 23 for London via tho Panama Canal. After completing her loading at Auckland, the New Zealand Shipping Company’s motor ship Rangitiki was to sail for Southampton and London at noon to-day. The Wainui sailed last evening for Napier and Gisborne via ports. For Wanganui and Foxtou via ports, tho Himatangi left last evening. At 8 o’clock this morning the Waimarino. camo alongside the Cross wharf to discharge general cargo from Auckland via ports and to load for the return trip. She sails to-morrow for Oamarn, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. Last night the Storm left Wellington

for Dunedin, where she is due to-mor-row to load and sail at night for Timaru, 'Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The Auckland Harbour Board advises j that the ’ Western Beacon, off St. Mary’s Bay, has been removed. Owing to the construction of the St. Mary’s Bay breakwater, it is no longer required. ' ‘ THE WAIHEMO. The Union Company's transpacific steamer Waihemo is reported to have reached New Westminster on Wednesday to, continue loading cargo from Pacific Coast ports for New Zealand. Tho cargo is for discharge at Napier, New Nelson, Lyttelton, Dunedin, end Bluff. She is scheduled to clear Los Angeles on September 25 and to reach Napier about October 20. GOLDEN CROSS LEAVING LYTTELTON. Messrs H. L. Tapley and Company advise that the 0. and O, steamer Golden Cross was to leave Lyttelton this morning for Dunedin, where she is duo to-morrow to berth alongside the Rattray street , wharf to unload American cargo From Dunedin she returns to San Francisco via Gisborne and Honolulu. • . DUB AT END OF WEEK. Tho local agents for the King Line motor, ship King John report that the vessel is to leave Lyttelton on Friday next for Port Chalmers. She is duo here tbo following day to unload phosphates, from Nauru Island. Her future movements are indefinite. NARBADA DUE FRIDAY. The Union Company’s Indian, trader Narbada is now to leave Timaru on Thursday afternoon, arriving here on Friday to unload Eastern merchandise Sho later goes to Bluff to complete discharge. , 5 PORT BRISBANE LEAVES BALBOA. The C. and D. Lino has received cabled advice that the Port Brisbane, cn route from New York, cleared the Panama Canal last Wednesday. She is due at Auckland on October 1, and will later proceed to Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin to complete discharge. ' CABLES IN HARBOUR. Tho Post and Telegraph Department warns mariners, that ' two Telephone cables have been laid in Little Shoal Bay. Commencing at Ponsonby, after reaching position 500 ft south-west of Stokes’, Point, cables deviate in a riorth-westerly direction, and pass approximately 100 ft to westward of Northcoto wharf, thence in direction 33Sdeg toward inner end of Little Shoal Bay. Vessels anchoring in Little Shoal Bay are warned to keep clear of cables. BLUFF HARBOUR LIGHTS. A temporary beacon exhibiting an unwatched flashing white light every 3sec, thus, flash o.3sec, eclipse 2.7 sec, has been installed on Channel Rocks, Bluff Harbour, 22Ideg 337yds from tbo port white leading beacon at Tewaewae Point. ARMADALE UNLOADING, Tho A. and A. Line’s chartered steamer Armadale arrived at Dunedin shortly after 10 o’clock this morning from New York via ports. She was berthed at the Rattray street wharf, where she commenced unloading American cargo. The ship afterwards proceeds to Sydney. The Armadale left New York on July 16, and she cleared Panama on July 27. Fine weather was experienced throughout the voyage, which was uneventful except for tho vessel’s response to the call for assistance from tho Tahiti on August 15. The Armadale' changed her course and had covered about fifty-five miles before sho learned that other vessels would be able to roach the Tahiti sooner. She then resumed her voyage to Auckland via Suva, where she discharged a portion of her cargo. Strong variable winds from the south were encountered near the New Zealand coast. Captain A. P. Bach is in command of the Armadale, and he has with him the following officers:—Chief officer, Mr P. E. Crickmer; second, Mr G. White;; third, Mr G. Merrick; chief engineer, Mr N.
