They disqualified the horse, and warned off the trainer, D. Taylor, an ex-jockey, who had a remarkable sequence of five victories this season with Darboy. The. announcement caused a sensation. WORLD’S LEADING PLAYERS. LONDON, September 16. (Received September 17, at 1 p.m.) Wallis Myers, in the ‘ Daily Telegraph/ classifies the first ten tennis players in the world as follows; Cochet, Tilden, Borotra, Doeg, Shields Allison, Lott, Morpurgo, Boussus, and Austin. Mr Myers believes that rrank Shields will prove a leader among tho young Americans, and says that tho Australians are disappointing.
GOLF. AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. MELBOURNE, September 17. (Received September 17, at 11 a.m.) In one of the greatest battles for the national amateur title Hattersley defeated Nettlefold, twice holder of the title, at tho thirty-eighth hole; Sloan Morpeth beat Adams in hollow lashion, 10 up and 8; Russell beat Appevly, 5 and 4; Edgar beat Ryinill, 1 up, after a grand struggle. The surprise of the professional matches was the defeat of D. Spence by Robertson, 6 and 5; Stewart beat Howard, 8 and 7 ; Naismith beat Downs, 2 up; Fowler beat W’ood, 3 and 2. BILLIARDS.
