SPIRITUALISM.

TO THS EDITOR. Sir, —Sine© this discussion began I have said that the greatest damage to Spiritualism has come from its so-called friends, and the latest effusion on the subject from the publicity officer of the Spiritualist Church of New Zealand is further proof of this statement. One correspondent last week—in fact, more than one—writing in favour of Spiritualism, plaintively asked why_ wo did not leave such beliefs alone —i.e., why not cease to criticise, irrespective of their truth or falsity. Another contributor gave a recital of alleged occurences of tho most trivial character, and a third stigmatises Sir Oliver Lodge’s critics as beneath notice or overburdened with coficeit. Now the publicity officer complains that I use too offensive language, and withdraws. Truly a fitting climax, and quite what one might expect from any who set out to defend a very weak case. That I write vigorously I admit, but offensiveness I do not admit, except it be that anything which severely criticises another’s beliefs is offensive. A complete surrender • from an_ official nnder the circumstances is quite in order, and is hereby accepted.—l am, etc.. E.W.F. August 6. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Being no advocate for Spiritualism, I would still like to ask “Whole Truth ” to answer this question. Ho savs he is quite comtent to take his belief, teachings, etc., from the Bible. I want “ Whole Truth ” to prove the actual facts or demonstrate the miracles and teachings of tho Bible, not to quote them from that book. Until ho can demonstrate his beliefs as he is asking tho other fellow to do, I think it would bo ivise for him to say nothing. —I am, etc., Fair Peat. August 6.
