GIRL GUIDE NOTES

Miss S. Marett (Roslyn), Miss J. How (Ist North-east Valley), and Miss M. Boulton (Woodhaugh) have received their warrants tor the above companies. Miss E. Wise (Brown Owl, Ist North-east. Valley Company), Leader G M'Cormack (2nd Port Chalmers Company) have passed the necessary tests for their first class badge and all-round cords. Cadet, Jean Laing (2nd Port Chalmers Company) has obtained her first class badge, all-round cords, and nursing handmaid (lied Cross armlet). • Miss N. Sellars is acting-captain of the Ravensbourno Company of Girl Guides. The last meeting of the Bishdpscourt Girl Guides (Cohimba College) took the form of a social evening, it being their fifth birthday; The provincial badge was the design chosen for the programmes, which were most artistic. A ■ number of games and competitions arranged by Miss M. Hervey (captain) proved rpost enjoyable. Other, items included a. pianoforte solo by Guide H. Cowie, Flamborough sword dance and Guido law_ ceremonial by Guides. Mrs Beath (Divisional Commissioner) presented oighty-three proficiency badges and a large number of service stars, including one to Miss Hervey for five yours’ service. Apologies were received from Mrs C. de 11. Andrews and Miss V. Barron. During supper Miss F. Ross was presented with a thanks badge as a token of appreciation from the Guides. The following Sunday the Guides attended the morning service at the Maori Hill Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Standage was the officiating minister. The Roslyn Girl Guide Company celebrated its sixth birthday in Linden Hall on July 4. Miss Stella Marett (captain) and her officers entertained the visitors present, who included Commissioners Mrs C. de R. Andrews, Mrs Beath. Misses Barron and Feichley, also the committee and parents of the Guides. Mrs S. M. -Park was the donor of the lovely , birthday cake, with its six candles. Mrs. Stuart Moore, on behalf of, the committee, asked Miss Ina Clarke’s acceptance of a gift from them in recognition of her four years’ service as captain of the company. Mrs C. do R. Andrews congratulated the company on its efficiency. The company and committee were present at the evening service in the Roslyn Baptist Church. The Rev.' P. L. Cranipton spoke on friendship, and a solo was rendered by Miss Feichley. ■ The Dunedin Ranger Company (Miss T. Clarke, captain) entertained parents and friends at a social evening last Wednesday. The members of the company, which number twenty-four, have all passed the test for their second class badge '['he Rayensbourne. Girl Guides were the guests of the Parents’ Committee on ’ J uly 29, the occasion being the fourth anniversary of the company. Mis Pickcrill welcomed the Guides, their parents, and friends. Mrs C. de R. Andrews (Provincial Commissioner) enrolled a number of Guides. Mrs Turner, who has faithfully filled the position of bon. secretary for four years, was the recipient of a gift from the committee., An attractive programme was presented by the Guides, under the leadership of Miss N. Sellars (acting-captain) and Miss D. Asher (lieutenant). On August 1, in the Kaikorai Presbyterian Church Hall, the Roslyn Brownie Pack, held its annual concert. The programme, with the exception of a mandolin and piano duet by Miss M Taylor (Brown Owl) and Miss M. Smyth (Tawny Owl), was given entirely by the Brownies. Nursery rhymes, recitations, singing, and dancing, concluding with Maori songs in character, showed careful training ou the part of Miss M. Taylor and her officers. The Maori mats and head bands worn by the Brownies wore much admired, also the work of Miss Taylor and Mrs Barnard. Mr Reg. Barnard was responsible for the unique posters. The committee had charge of the sweets stall.
