HARRIERS

NORTHERN. The Northern Harriers held their run from the Ravcnsbourne Methodist Church. The paper was in the hands of D. Watson and G. Turner, and the pack under the whistles of Captain Dunn and B. Pearce as deputy captain. The trail led over Signal Hill down into Opoho to the Northern Cemetery, then across Logan Park to the Ravensbourno road, which was followed home, the first three being G. Yates, R. M'Kinlay, and N. Henderson. ST. KILDA. The St Kilda Club held its Junior and Open Two-mile Handicap. Seventeen runners faced the starter. The course led from the St. Kilda Bathing Pavilion along Lovers’ Lane to St. Clair, then round the park and bark bv Victoria road, finishing at the St. Kilda terminus. The limit men set up a fast pace along the lane, but the scratch men were well placed when St. Clair was reached. Coming out ofithe lane the order was; I. Still, A. Kbrr. and D. Robertson.’ From then the pace was on, with the back "markers all in the lead. In a close finish the placings in the Open wore 1. St'i (fioyds), C Pope (scr), and A. Bond (GO, yd s'!; and in the Junior R Orange ffiyds), H. A. Brown (10yds), and W More (70yds). The time was <juito good, being llmir. PACIFIC. This club ran from the Albany Street School, a good muster turning out ,under the whistles of Captain Bond and Deputy-captain M’Laren. Paper was dispensed with, and the pack set off at a good pace down the Lower Port Chalmers road. When Ravcnsbourne was readied the pack split up, and the fast pack reached Burkes before turning for home. In a fast run several young runners showed np rominently. MORNINGTON. An attendance of <ibout two-thirds the average had a run from the Old Caversham School. Paper was dispensed with, the fast pack running under Captain C. E. Birt and the slowpack under J. C. Lucas. The trail was over the CorstorpliMie bill to Burnside, and up the road round the St, Clair golf links and Cargill’s Castle toiSt. Clair, and home. The fast pack put in some solid work, and a new member of this year. George Baird, showed that be will bo an extremely useful member of the junior team. Alan Cbirnaido was running as well as usual, and F. W. Miller was perhaps at the top of Ida form. Although C. E. Birt did not show up as well as usual,. be is coming along very well. Tn a fast run home from St. Clair F. Sanders and L. Hall led the pack homo. The slow pad; followed practically the same course, but did not make such a strenuous day of it. Colin Chirnside was well to the front In the run home. Next Saturday there will be no club run. but members will moot at the corner of Glen road and South road at 1,30 p.m. and go to the football test match. The committee will meet at 7.30 p.m. next Saturday evenng ST. PATRICK'S. The St. Patrick’s Harriers ran from tho Mornington Catholic School, there being a, fair attendance of members, who followed an excellent trail laid byHogan and J. Robertson. It led from the school down into the Kaikor ai Valley, thence across country to the Southern Reservoir. From there a fast pace was set along the water race. After crossing country for a good distance the pack turned for home, following the same course. A fast run homo resulted in Smith being first, followed closely by Henderson and C. M’Donald, in that order. ABBOTSFORD. The Abbotsford Club met at the Caversham Church ns the guests of the Ladies’ Stand. Sixteen runners set off, ffundcr tho whistles of Captain R. Knox and Deputy-captain Finchnm on the trail of G. Sadler and L. Simp son. The trail led up the Caversham Valley road, across the paddocks to the vicinity of the golf links, following the road to Black Hoad as far as Paterson s farm; thence across the paddocks on to the Slain South road via the Green Island Cemetery. The paper then led along the Main road over Look-out Point, and home. Tho placings in the run homo were : -Slow pack—B Buchanan. A. Barnes, and C. Knox: while in tho fast pack R, Knox headed F. Sell, followed by D. FinchaM. The club were then entertained to tea by the Ladies’ Guild, to wliom thanks are due. CARGILL ROAD METHODISTS, Cargill Road Methodists bold their run from tho Maori Hill Methodist Church. The pack, under tho whistles of Penn and H. Ridley, had a fast and enjoyable run, Deputy-captain Penn bong first home.

CIVIL SERVICE. Civil , Service and Roslyn Presbyterian Clubs held a combined run from tlio Secular Hall, Iloslyn, the paper being in tho hands of L. W Logan (Iloslyn) and J. J Morris (Caversham), who ran as the guests of the two clubs. The trail led down the car line to the Kaikorai Valley road, up Wakari, through Helensburgh road, to the foot of Flagstaff; then across to tho'head of Fraser's Creek. The pack finished well together. Two new members, G. T. M‘Kersey and A. J. Harris, ran well. Nest Saturday a: unofficial run will bo held from Port Chalmers (2.30 p.m. train). CAVERSHAM. Cavorsham Harriers ran from the Garrison Hall, Port Chalmers, an attendance of forty-four runners following a trying trail, for which IS. J. Roacho and R. Woodfield were responsible. The team for the Kcnnctt Cup held a flat training run for about three miles, while in tending junior C.C. competitors followed the trail for about a quarter of an hour before the main , pack. Leaving the hall the trail led , along the Port-Duuo' n road as far as Sawyers Bay. and continued up over Tunnel Hill to the country below Mount Cargill. Here some thick bush was encountered (causing many uncomplimentary remarks to bo passed about tho men with the paper) and traversed, the trail then gradually turning back towards Sawyers Bay. Tho hilly nature of the country then covered caused many of tho runners to realise their | lack of training; but when tho run was over everyone seemed quite satisfied that the run was a thoroughly enjoyable one. A very enjoyable evening was spent afterwards, the club being , the guests of the Port Chalmers Anglican Young Ladies’ Club.

LEITH. Tho Leith Club ran as the guests of Mr and Mrs Gerrard from tho Anglican Boys’ Home Vauxhall. The paper was in tho capable hands of S. Anderson and J. Thomson, who laid a good trail over splendid harrier country. From tho homo tho pack followed tho trail to Tomahawk Lagoon, then over hilly country to the soldiers’ monument. From there the pack had a run home, which resulted in G. Ward, S. Parker, and H. Masters being first. DUNEDIN. Dunedin Harriers ran from Passmore crescent, Maori Hill The pack, under the whistle of Deputy-captain Smith, set off at a fair pace along Cannington road to the top of Roy’s Gully, and down to the track that leads round the reservoir to the golf links, and out on to the road at the back of tho golf links, taking the track a fair way up Flagstaff, then keeping round the edge round the bush and coming out about two miles up NicholTs Creek, where the waterfalls and rocks were negotiated. Reaching tho Leith Valley road, a steady pace was maintained up the steep grade to Essex House, skirting the reservoir, and back up Roy’s Gully, across the links, and home. The members were afterwards entertained by Mr and Mrs Romerill.
