THE LAST DAY
CONCLUDING EVENTS OF BAND CONTEST To-day marks the culmination of one of the moat successful band contests of recent years. Thirty-four bands have participated in the contest this year, and all have contributed to an excellent standard of performance. Bandsmen have come from Auckland to Invercargill, and all have conducted themselves admirably during their stay in the city To-day the allimportant -quickstep competition for the A and B grades was beldj the pleasant weather conditions prevailing attracting a huge crowd to the Oarisbrook Ground The nineteen bands engaged assembled at the Queen’s Gardens at 1 p.m., and shortly after marched off. They made a fine showing, and their progress was followed with much interest. The quickstep is perhaps the most popular event in every contest, and this afternoon the spectators were highly delighted • with the performances. TO-NIGHT'S PROGRAMME The contest will be brought to a conclusion this evening, when the A and B (own choice) contest will be held in the Town Hall, commencing at 7.30. This promises to provide a most interesting evening’s entertainment, as each band will be playing a different selection. To-night’s programme should make a fitting climax.
