KNEE DEEP IN WATER
AUCKLAND CITY FLOODED TREMENDOUS RAINSTORM [Pee United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, January. 21. It is estimated that half an inch of rain fell in the city in half an hour early this morning. The' rainfall for January to 9 a.ra. to-day is 5.79 inches. Low-lying areas were flooded for about two hours, and the city streets resembled rivers. At the -orner of Fort street and Queen street the water was knee deep, and at the center of Queen street and Customs street motor cars were stopped by the water reaching the engines. The premises of quite a number of city business firms were flooded. The downpour was steady from 7.30 a.m to 11.30 a.m.
