NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS Heavy rainstorms and driving, wind caused a postponement of play in the final stages or the North Island lawn tennis championships at the Wanganui Club’s courts. A few matches were played on Saturday morning. , The ‘ semi-finals of tho ladies’- championship singles provided two surprises, Mrs Adams defeating Mrs Myers, and Miss Nicholls defeating Mrs Melody, botli winning in two set matches. Mrs Adams commenced poorly, and was down 3-1, but she soon got on to her game. Miss Myers was not at homo on the heavy courts, and was also troubled with tho perfect length shots to her back hand, yin tho second sot Miss Myers was off her drive, and Mrs Adams bad no difficulty in finishing 6-2 Miss Nicholls won easily from Mrs Melody. The latter did not produce the form she" had shown earlier in the tournament. Miss Nicholls’s driving ■was perfect, and Mrs Melody was frequently caught out of position. •' Angas and Lampe were superior to Stcdman and Charters, whom them mat in the semi-final of the men’s championship doubles. The former pair combined better than on the previous day, , and played aggressively from the net, smashing and volleying with accuracy. Results: — LADIES’ SINGLES. —Semi-finals.— Mrs Adams beat Miss Myers, 7-5, C-2. Miss Nicholls beat Mrs Melody, 6-4. 6-0 MEN’S DOUBLES. Angas and Lamps beat Stcdman and Charters, 6-3, 6-3.
