RARE DISEASE
THE RUSSIAN REFUGEES GERMAN DOCTORS BAFFLED. Pres* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. BERLIN, January 4. The doctors admit that they are baffled by an epidemic among the refugees from Russia. These people are encamped at Hammerstein. b ifty-two children under four years of age have already died, and forty are dangerously ill. Tho illness takes the form l of a sudden fever, with inflammation of the lungs, proving fatal in a few hours. The malady is believed to be due to a rare streptococcus. All tile coudrfcn have been inoculated, and the camp is strictly isolated. , One of the difficulties _is that the Mcnnonito refugees are similar to the Christian Scientists, who place more faith in prayer than in doctors. Most of tho victims were weakened by a recent attack of measles. <■
