In th© week ended December 21 Britain’s coal mines produced 5,647,200 tons, an amount which exceeds any week’s output since May, 1924. The wage earners employed for the week numbered 949,400. TESTS IN CANADA. RUGBY, January 1. The superior quality of British coal has been demonstrated by a series of tests instituted by the Canadian Department of Mines. The report states that these tests were carried out on thirty fuels of the most varied type, ranging from anthracite to peat. The most efficient fuel tested was Welsh anthracite, 8.4 tons of which were equal to ten tons of American anthracite, which was taken as a standard. Scotc) semi-anthracite was nearly as good.
