Aspiring Sasser achs who . have proudly—yet not, perhaps, without some degree of trepidation—sported a tartan kilt will be relieved to hear that 'this highly typical Scottish garment has an English origin i So declares the ‘ Sphere,- which supports its story with reproductions of famous paintings. It all happened iOO years ago, when an English tailor named Parkinson, while in camp with General Wade, was (‘lommissionecf to make the first kilt. It was called the “feilidh bag,” to distinguish it from the .belted plaid, made in one pieqe.
