PORTOBELLO ROAD FATALITY.

TO TEH EDITOR. Sir,-—As one not acquainted with eixher party connected with, this very sad affair, but who has motored over this road some thousands of times, I should like to say in defence of those who have been killed, and with the desire to effecting a remedy to prevent another such tragedy, that the accident was not necessarily caused by speeding. The fact is that this particular spot'is a death trap, and i defy anyone to prove that there is a clear vision on the road of 200yds. The road is very narrow at this point, and there is nod even a-50yds vision, due to no other reason than of being obscured by. an unsightly boat shed close to The roadV side. Whatever might be said to the contrary, I am certain that, were it not for the existence of this obstruction, the accident-'would have been avoided. Owners of property with trees overhanging the roadside are expected to sacrifice them for the safety of road traffic, and rightly so» too. - ft is for the powers that be to take such steps as may be necessary in the public interest to prevent a rejpetition of this calamity.—-I am, etc., Safety fthsi. January 2.
