TO SEAT 4,800 SIMILAR STRUCTURES FOR OTHER CENTRES [Special to the ‘ Star.’] AUCKLAND, November 19, Plans for the stadium to be built on a site at the corner of Khyber Pass and Mountain road show that the structure will be a two-storied one capable of seating 4,800 people. In addition to boxing and wrestling, the stadium will be available for theatrical entertainment or public functions. Stadiupis (N.Z.), Ltd. propose later to establish similar buildings in Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. The site chosen for the Auckland structure is an area of one acre and three-quarters, and it is proposed to secure an eighty-four years’ lease of the property. The stadium will be constructed in reinforced concrete and brick, and there will be a minimum of wood and other inflammable materials. The auditorium will be in the shape of a full semi-circle, and for theatrical performances some 3,200 seats will be available. The stage will be the largest in Auckland, and there will be a fully-equipped kitchen in the basement. For dancing there will bo a specially sprung floor, with an area of 118 ft by 73ft. A space of 116 ft by 30ft will be available in the basement for a gymnasium. The stadium is to be known as Olympia. The company lias an authorised capital of £IOO,OOO, which will be available in £1 shares. Applications for 10,000 shares have already been received, and the balance will be held in reserve for future issue. The directors of the company are the Hon. Ernest E. Townshend, Mr T. A. Holdsworth, Mr W. E. Grant, Mr J. S, Dickson, and Mr S. E. Kennings, all ojj Auckland.
