BITUMEN GAS EXPLOSION FIRE COMPLETES RUIN IPbb United Pssss Association;! AUCKLAND, November 1. An explosion in Karangahape road, Newton, at 2 o'clock this morning completely wrecked Howie’s gramophone shoo Gramophones, panatrope records and accessories were flung in all directions. The foundations were moved and the partitions shifted. The damage is estimated at £2,000. Tho explosion was caused by bitumen gas, resulting from a fused electric power cable. The Economy Store adjoining had a plate-glass window smashed, and small goods scattered over the pavement. A shop 60ft distant, across the street, had two windows in the upstairs part of the building smashed. Following tho explosion, fire broke out, and the flames crept into the Bristol Piano Company’s premises, but wore suppressed immediately by the brigade
