EMINENT MATERNITY SPECIALIST CANNOT VISIT HEW ZEALAND (THOU Quit PiRLIAiIfiKTAKr REPORTER.] WELLINGTON, October 31. A prominent visitor to the Commonwealth of Australia at: present is Dame Janet Campbell, M.D., M.S. (senior medical officer’for Maternity'and Child Welfare under the Ministry of Health, London), who was asked to report to the Commonwealth Government on matters relating to maternity and child welfare It was hoped that Dame Janet would bo able to pay a visit to New Zealand before her return to England, and Mr Stallworthy (Minister of Health) gomo time ago extended an invitation to her to visit this dominion with a view to obtaining her advice on matters connected with the training of nurses and midwives. Representations were also made to the Ministry of Health-, London, urging that permission bo given for the visit, but the Minister to-day received cabled advice from the Ministry regretting that Dame Janet could not undertake the trip. It is understoood that there are matters requiring the personal attention of Dame in London, and for that reason the Ministry does not look "ith favour on any extension _ of her ■’hscncp from Home.'-which, in nnv hnse. will amount- to more than six months.
