LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION

The Dunedin branch of the League it Nauons Union neld a sp:ctal meet mg at the request ot the Dominion executive, in reference to Armist.ee Day celebrations. After discussion it was considered injudicious to repeat last year’s public meeting. It was thought better to take some steps through the churches and those organisations which were already preparing to mark the anniversary. Therefore it was resolved to ask the co-operation of. the individual members, and also to have a window display of union publications, with opportunity for new members to enrol. The Chairman (the Rev. Mr Bellhouse) reported the answer from the Head Masters’ Association, and also that a deputation consisting of Mrs Denton Leech, Mr A. Burn, Dr Herrington, and himself, had been received by tho Anglican Synod, he and Dr Mernngton being the speakers. At a later session a resolution sympathetic, to their representations was passed by the Synod. The Dominion Executive advised with regard to tho approaching visit of Mr Riches, the New Zealand representative on the staff, of the International Labour Office, and requested that Dunedin make suitable arrangements to enable him to meet various sections of the community which were interested in the economic questions dealt with by that office, and incidentally to dispel the many erroneous conceptions of what the office stood for. Mr Riches will be in Dunedin either in January or .February. A deputation was arranged to wait upon the executive of the Otago branch of the Education Institute at its next meeting. Tho secretary’s report showed seven new enrolments and two new corporate members—viz., the Otago \V omen’s Club and Knox College. A junior branch had been formed at Columba College. This was the first in the South Island and the second, in New Zealand.
