SPORTS GATHERINGS

DUNEDIN TECHNICAL COLLEGE The staff of the King Edward Technical College has every reason to feel pleased with tiie success of its efforts in arranging the school’s first annual sports meeting. The fixture was held at Carisbrook yesterday, and a varied and interesting programme of events was drawn up for both the boys and girls of the college. Though fine overhead, a rather cold wind blew from the south, the conditions being far from ideal for competitors and spectators alike. In all, about sixty-five events were completed. These were run to an efficiently organised time-table. • Mr I. Scott, chairman ot the Board of Managers, was present throughout the day. Mr Sanderson,'of the board, rendered valuable assistance as adjudge of the girls’ events; while Mr Aldridge, principal of the college, acted as referee. In the boys’ section the starting was in the hands of Mr J. R. M'Dougall, ably assisted by Messrs Meikle and Roberts. Messrs H. Sew iioy, E. i>. Smyth, J. Harris, R. N. Field. R. Gardner, and J. Davidson acted as judges, and Messrs I*. Gair, Allen, and ,Vt : Queen made very efficient track stewards. ' . . , The officials controlling the girls events were Starters, Miss Bnckell and Mr M'lver; track_ stewards and equipment, Misses C. Neale and Aburn and Mr Selby; judges—Misses Holmes, Anderson, and Griffiths; recorders— Misses Wilson, Hore, and Scott. The interests of the Press were well looked after by Mr W. F. Alexander. Misses Owen and Holmes, The enthusiasm of the girls was most marked, and the happy spirit in which the ‘losers received the verdict was a notable feature in the tone of the whole meeting. Outstanding performances were credited to H. Holey, H. M'Lachlan, B. Asher, and B. Pilling. In the hop, step, and jump competition for girls F. Sneddon, who is-under fifteen years of age, covered 27ft 4iin. The canteen, controlled by Mr W. r. M‘Dongall. Misses Digby Smith, Moran, and Mr Prowse, was the centre of considerable attraction throughout the day.

ST. HILDA'S COLLEGIATE SCHOOL Good sport was provided at the Caledonian Ground yesterday afternoon, when the annual athletic meeting of St. Hilda’s Collegiate School pupils wms held. The ground was in perfect condition for the races, but _ a fresh southerly wind militated against fast times. Many parents and friends were in attendance, and the programme of events was put through in creditable time, thanks to. the efforts of the officials. As in previous meetings, keen rivalry was shown in the interhouse •and interform events, while many close and good finishes were witnessed. The children’s races were very amusing, and altogether the meeting was thoroughly successful. The senior and junior cups went to J. Holloway, and S. Alexander respectively. At the conclusion of the events, afternoon tea was served, and later Mr George Ritchie distributed the prizes. Results:— Egg,, and Spoon (open).—M. Johnstone 1, M. Harraway 2.
