FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING

The lost Sunday of October is now known throughout the Catheme w-..i as the “ Feast of Christ the King, and wherever it is possible celebrations are held with all the pomp of the church’s wonderful liturgy Ln keeping with the rest of the world Dunedin diocese celebrations were held at Holy Cross College, Mosgiel, yesterday. Two special trains carried a large crowd from Dunedin, and this number was supplemented by those who journeyed 'in motor cars. The day was beautifully fine, and the college grounds were looking at their best. Overlooking tho whole scene was the crowning pi. ee of artistic' and architectural work for which the students were responsible—namely, a magnificent high altar built on the college balcony. Right Rev. Dr Whyte, Bishop of Dunedin, tho Dunedin Catholic clergy, and the professors and students of Holy Cross College all took part in the ceremonies. Pontifical High Mass was celebrated in the forenoon, and a nun. ster Eucharistic procession was held in tile afternoon. This was an imposing spectacle as it wended its way through the college grounds. In the procession were the Christian Brothers’ pupils (whose singing was v6ry devotional, and added much to the day’s ceremonies), the Dunedin and Mosgiel Hibernians. Dunedin and Mosgiel members of the Sodality of Mary, pupils of St. Dominic’s College and all the Dunedin and Mosgiel priests and Holy Cross students, St. Joseph’s Cathedral Choir, and a large gathering of laity. Towards the close of tho procession sobmn pontifical benediction was given by Bishop Whyte, St. Joseph’s Choir supplying the singing, Mr vallis presided at the organ, "he Students’ Choir sang the ‘ Pango Lingua ’ and other appropriate hymns in tho procession. Bishop Whyte was celebrant at the Pontifical High Mass, the Rev. Dr Morkane assistant priest; deacon, the R"v. J. Murphv; sub-deacon, the Rev. H. Hyde: master of ceremonies, tho Rev. W. Me°de; deacons at the tlnone —tho Revs. Father V. M'O'onc and J, Fitzgibbon. The music for the mass was rend red bv the Students’ Choir, under the R-'v. Father Gordon The P»t. Georeo T «ckwood presided at f ha organ. The mass clms-m was Pere ’s, and the ofiyrtory motet Casio ,: ”i’s Amrelicos.’ The Rev. Dr CVN-nll read the ‘Act of Consecration ’ and the ‘Litany of the Sacred Heart,’ the assemblage Joining in the resnonses. The rector (the Very Rev. Dr Morkane), his .professorial staff, and the students are to be congriitnlated on the success of the day’s ceremonies. In the parish church there were large attendances at both masses, and in the morning the choir sang appropriate music. Miss Qne’ch presided at the organ. On Saturday evening Bishop Whrte presided at solemn pontifical vespers, the Stnd*>nts’ Choir rendering tho music.
