In the other 343 cities and boroughs one-third of the councilors retire each year and the elections are therefore held oacn year. The elections this year in these ‘-;43 cities and boroughs will be inaiked by a great effort on the part of the Labour thirty to achieve the successes similar to those ■which it obtained m the recent general election, in Jaao year’s o.ections the Labour Parly gained 127 seats in tho 1,878 seats, which fell vacant in Ibi of tho principal towns. Every other party received a setback, the Conservatives losing seventy seats, Liberals nineteen, and tho independents thirty-seven.
