POSTAL SALARIES

AH INVERCARGILL PROTEST fPEB Uxrreo Press Association.l INVERCARGILL, October 25. At a largely-attended meeting of the Southland section of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association to-night the following resolution was unanimously carried:—“This section is at a loss to understand the reasons advanced by the committee set up by the Prime Minister why a general increase of salaries is not warranted! The report of the committee, which is actually a recommendation to the Governmentj is considered a poor reward for efficient services rendered. Moreover, the coupling of our just claims with the salary cut restoration claim made by other Civil servants, and submitting these to be adjudicated by a committee of Civil servants is very unsatisfactory, and is considered a move to shelve the just claim made by honest working men. We hereby instruct our executive to release for public information the data relative to the true position, and demand that our claim be settled on the floor of the House or by arbitra tion.”

• ‘ Tins section also views with gravedissatisfaction the delay in producing the classification schedules, and con siders further that the creation of 200 promotions for officers of the general and clerical division will certainly not meet the position, as all grades require to he raised in comparison with the increased cost of living since 1914.”
