The American steamer Golden Forest,ox West Togus, 5,658 tons register, and owned by the Oceanic and Oriental Navigation Company, is reported to be a total wreck in Shelikof Straits, near Seattle. It appears that the Golden Forest went ashore at Avatanak Island, Unimak Pass, about July 24, and started leaking in Nos. 1 and 2 holds. Later on- she was refloated and beached at Akutan Island for temporary repairs, where a portion of her cargo from No. '1 and 2 holds was discharged into a small steamer named the El Cedro. On. August 13 she was refloated, and left on August 30 for Seattle in tow of the tug Salvage King. All went well until September 5, when she again went ashore, this time in Shelikof Straits, and after trying to refloat her she was abandoned on September 12 as a total loss. The Golden Forest, which was well known at Wellington, left Australia last April for Japan, and from there she proceeded to the Pacific Coast.
