MACANDREW BAY NOTES

[Faoii Our Cobbespondxnt.] A meeting of the North-east Harbour School Committee was held in the school on Monday evening. The head master (Mr Blair) submitted a report to the effect that the average attendance for the month was 135. Miss E. Bolting, head mistress of the infant department, tendered her resigntaion, having received an appointment under the Southland Education Board at Wyndham. Gratification was expressed in ro the progress of negotiations for the new school site, the Otago Education Board having intimated its favourable consideration of the removal early in the new year. By consistent efforts sufficient pressure has ben brought to bear on the postal authorities whereby the activities of the Postal -Department in the Bay have been extended to include the paymnt of pensions and a money order and savings bank branch. These advantages are a decided improvement, and will save a good deal of inconvenience. Matters pertaining to the inter-bay football competition for the Peninsula Motor Service Shield were advanced a further stage on Saturday last, when the Macandrew Bay team journeyed to Broad Bay, and played a combined team of Broad Bay and Portobello residents. The match, which was played on the show grounds, was very evenly contested, and ultimately resulted in a win for Macandrew Bay by the margin of 9 points to 3. To date the Macandrew Bay boys have defeated all-comers, and it only remains for them to beat the Tomahawk residents, when they will lie the holders of the shield for the ensuing twelve months.
