(Deceived October 19, at 12.25 p.m.)] The ‘Gazette 1, announces that the modal of the military division of the Order of the British Empire has been awarded to Flight Cadet MTvechnie for gallantry. An aeroplane on June 20 last, piloted by Flight Cadet Giles, crashed at Cranweii aerodrome and burst into flames. Giles was stunned, but he managed to release the safely, belt, and fell out of the machine in a. dazed condition. M/Kechnie, landing in another aeroplane 200yds away, ran. to the'scene of tile crash. The petrol was then in full blaze over an area of 10yds, and Giles was in the midst of the flames in a semi-conscious condition. M'Keehnie, without hesitation, ran into the flames and pulled out Giles —who was badly burnt—with his clothing actually on fire. M'Kechnic. who was scorched, extiiw guished. the flames on Giles’s clothing. Meanwhile the machine was in full blaze and the petrol. was_ spreading, making it certain that if Giles had not been rescued he would have been burnt to death, as he was incapable of moving.
