Manager oi Rail ways) when interviewed to-day regard ing the special carriage being built a‘ Addington Workshops for his use. Mr Sterling explained that at . the present there was no suitable carnage available for the General Manager s work in the South Island. With Hie advent of the night trains suitable accommodation was necessary, and for this- reason the carriage was being built. 'There was no mystery about tho carriage. It was designed on lino of utility rather than ornament Facilities were .afforded for the'; General Manager and his secretary to re ceive deputations and carry out their work while travelling. He stated that he hopes to spend some considerable time in the South Island in the near future. .
