WEDDING

Tile ’marriage of Joan, younger daughter of Mr Percy Halsted, to Esmond, elder son of Mr and Mrs B. Barden, of Melbourne, was celebrated on Thursday afte'rnoon at the Synagogue, the Rev. A Astor officiating, with Mr Paget Gale at the organ. A guard oi honour was formed by the officers of the various Girl Guido companieSi through which the bride passed on the arm of her father, followed by her two bridesmaids. As thpy entered the Synagogue and stood under the blue velvet canopy, fringed with gold, they were joined by Mrs E. I. Halsted, who stood with the bride’s father to give away the bride, and by Mr and Mrs E. J. Michaelis. who gave away the bridegroom. The bridegroom was attended by Mr Geoff. Myers as best man, while Mr Maurice Myers and Mr M. L. Salinger acted as ushers. The bridal frock of gold lame was fashioned after the Queen Catherine style. A perfectly moulded bodice, tightly fitting, met the skirt in a petalled line, low at the back, and at the normal waistline in front. A circular skirt dipped to the ankles at the back, the front being much shorter. The long and tightly-fitting sleeves finished with dainty petalled cuffs and the square neck were other features borrowed from a bygone age. The long train, caught at the shoulders ■ and ending in large petals, had a lining of finest silk net that extended several inches beyond the lame, bordering it most effectively. A knot of blossom and pearls on tho train and another at tne waist were the only ornaments to relieve the sheer simplicity of the gown. The voluminous veil of Brussels net was arranged with a coronet of blossom to fall in tho long sweeping lines that characterised the bridal ensemble Tho chosen headdress, finished at the back with little satin ribbon ties, suited to perfection tho bride’s dark coiffure. A sheaf of ivory tulips was carried, and the gold brocade slippers of the bride added tho finishing touches of perfeetion. Continuing the golden colour scheme, the bridesmaids. Miss M, Halsted and bliss E. Michaelis (Sydney), cousins of the bride, most charming in frocks of daffodil ninon over crepe de chine. The skirts, composed of many picotedged petals that dipped and fluttered enchantingly, were long at the back. The hip linos, defined by broad bands of tiny tucks, were ‘appliqned with a diamond-shaped pattern of the ninon. The long, tightly-fitting sleeves were finished with quaintly flared cuffs, and a bow of the ninon appliqned to the loft shoulder in front and to the right shoulder at the _ hack charmingly relieved the simplicity of the corsage. Hats of rich Havana brown in Chinese hemp, srnipl moulded to, widebrimmed picture shapes, had V-shaped insets of the same coloured lace encircling the crown. Tho dark tunings of tho hats added character to the delicate colourings of tho frocks, and th • satin shoes and hose of mimosa. Both bridesmaids carried tulips in bronze and .golden tonings. Mrs'Emil Halsted’s lace and georgette ensemble was most effective. The lace skirt was swathed snugly round the hips, but divided and dropped at the left front to reveal a wide V of the georgette underneath, then dipped to the ankles in two points. A long roll collar of georgette with a finely-pleated edging relieved the lace bodice. A georgette iacket inset with an inverted V of lace at the hack, the apex beginning at the neck line, widened to within a f ew inches at tlu bottom, where it mined the wide band of lace bordering the coatee. The final touch was added to this smart toast-coloured ensemble by a most becoming hat of black ballihunfal straw, turned off the face and finished with u soft black mount on either side, ono nestling close to the left cheek, and a bouquet of ranunculus and nasturtiums which she carried. Mrs E. J. Michaelis wore a frock of floral ninon under a black coat lined with the same flowery material. A black hat and bouquet of tulips completed her toilette Mrs Maurice Myers’s frock was of mulberry crepe de chine, with close-fitting hat to tone, with which she wore beautiful furs and a large posy of lily of the valley.
