FORESTERS The fortnightly meeting of Court Bruce, Milton, was held on Monday last, when the C.R., Sister Carnie, presided over a good attendance. H was reported that there was a good deal of sickness amongst the members. A letter of thanks and appreciation was received from tho wife of a member in distress for generous assistance from tho court. Invitations were received from courts Littlo John and Enterprise for their anniversaries, but owing to the close proximity of the dates, the court decided to attend the functions of Court Little John and not those of Court Enterprise. A letter of thanks was passed to the latter court for the excellent entertainment provided on the recent visit to Dunedin of Court Bruce. An invitation was extended to Court Littlo John to pay an official visit at an early date. One now member was admitted, tho newly-elected officers carrying out the ceremonies in a capable manner. Following the close of tho mooting a progressive euchre tournament was hold, and the winners were C.R. Sister Carnie (lady’s prize) and Bro. T. Mills (men’s prize). Tho quarterly summoned meeting of Court Bride of Alexandra was hold in the Masonic Hall, Alexandra, last Monday, the C.R., Bro. L. Anderson, presiding over a good attendance of members. Following tho initiation of three new members the meeting adjourned, and on resuming tho next week the election of officers resulted as follows:—C.ll., Bro. E. O’Reilly; S.C.R., Sister L. The usual meeting of Court Excelsior was held on Tuesday last, when there was a good attendance under the charge of the C.R.. Bro. J. T. Wilson. Several invitations were received and accented to attend sister courts. A discussion was held on ritual work, and added further knowledge to members. Two now members wore admitted. An official visit was received from Court Enterprise, and P.C.11. Bro. Brcttell responded to tho usual toast. A pleasant meeting terminated with cards Court Little John celebrated its forty-first anniversary on Tuesday last, tho C. 11., Sister Drearer, presiding over a largo attendance of members and visitors, Tho District Executive was represented bv tho D.C.R., Bro. E. Rnsor. D.S.C.R.. Bro. Walmsley. D.S.. Bro. J. K. Macfic. and D.W.. Bro. J. H. Reynolds. There were also eight members present from Court Bruce. Milton. An invitation was accepted to pay an official visit to Court Bruce next month. The toast of tho visitors was responded to by P.C.11. Bro. F. W. Eason, one of tho founders of tho court, who, although well over the ago of eighty years still continued to take an active interest in the order. Ho congratulated Court Littlo John on its fine progress and mentioned his pleasure at seeing with him P.R.C. Bro. A. S. Sinclair, one of the charter members. Tho C.R. of Court Pride of tho Leith. Bro. IT. TV. Cockbiirn. returned thanks on behalf of the visitors, and extended good wishes and congratulations to Court Little John, C.S. Bro. M. E. Paul, on behalf of Court Bruce, also returned thanks. Tho D.C.H.. Enterprise. The toast of the visitors was responded to by tho chief officers of the visiting courts. On behalf of Court Pride of tho Leith, the C.R., Bro. W. 11. Cockbiirn, presented the court with the ritual competition shield, presented by Court Pride ot tho Leith for competition, and congratulated Court Pride of Green Island on its winning the shield tho. second time. After the°meetiim the floor was cleared and dancing indulged in to a late hour. A large gathering ot youthful members attended the monthly meeting of Court Faith of Green Island, juvenile branch attached to Court Queen of Green Island. Bro. Dalton reported on the opening of the Beacon Juvenile Temple at Port Chalmers,'' and on the continued progress of the order throughout the dominion. A vote of thanks was accorded to the visitors and those who had contributed to the programme, REGHABITHS The Otago Provincial Council met on Wednesday evening, and transacted a considerable amount of business. Prov. C.R. Bro. J. Rhodes occupied the chair, and the following worre also present: — Prov. S.J.T. Sister M. Bcnfell, Prov. S.E.M. Sister A. Stecdman, Prov. Lovito Sister N. R. Verngroen, P. Prov. C.R. Bro. L. V. Gain, and Prov. Sec. and Trcas. Bro. A. V. Gain. Reports wore received concerning the opening of the !< Crystal Spring ” Juvenile Tent at Cavcrsham on July 17. The tent is now well established, with a membership of fifty-eight, and is conducted by Bro. A. V. Gain. It was resolved to hold the annual inter-tent initiation ceremony competition in October, to be conducted on similar lines tp the preceding contests. An alteration in the mode of judging was suggested, and it was finally decided to appoint a sole judge instead of three, as formerly, Bro. L. V. Gain being appointed by a unanimous vote. Jt was also resolved to hold the annual juvenile competitions in singing and elocution in November, and the selection of the test pieces was placed in the hands of Sisters M. Benfell and N. R. Verngreeu. Considerable discussion _ took place concerning the anomalies existing in the issuing of clearance values by some of the districts, and it was resolved to request the central district ollico to forward a remit to the high movable conference. The fifty-third anniversary of the Hope of Dunedin Tent was held in the Embassy Salon on Monday evening. The largo number of members and their ■friends enjoyed themselves thoroughly. All business was dispensed with, and the evening was taken up in parlour games and dancing. Bro. E. J. lies as M.C. performed his task in an efficient manner, and was largely responsible for the success of the evening. The music provided by Bro. J. Kearsley at the piano proved very acceptable, and items rendered by Sister A. Stecdman and Bro. E. J. lies were also well received. The annual report, presented by the secretary, Bro. A. V. Gain, disclosed the fact that the funds arc in a very healthy state. The amount of money paid out in sick pay during the year was the highest on record, but, fortunately, the death rate was low. Two members and the wives of three members passed away, and sympathy was extended to the relatives. The items on the syllabus bad been faithfully carried out during the year, but the usual fortnightly meetings were not very well attended. > The juvenile section is m a progressive state, and Sister A. Coulter, superintendent, was thanked for her services, as also were Sister and Bro. L. Harold Nixon occupied the chair, and there was a largo attendance of members. A very pleasant evening was spent, and Bro. Donald Lnrnb. on behalf of the guests, returned thanks for the enjoyable entertainment. _ . The Primrose Juvenile Tent held its usual fortnightly mooting in Marshall Chambers, 'Moray place, on Monday evening, when five candidates were initiated.
