ALBANY STREET SCHOOL

ANNUAL REUNION The Albany Street School Association held its fourth annual reunion in the Foresters’ Hall last evening, most of the time being devoted to music, dancing, recitation, and reminiscence. The dance music was supplied by Mrs Clayton. Mr J. W. Cowie, president of the association, who occupied the chair, welcomed the visitors, and mentioned that Mr J. Barnett, an old pupil of the school, was again present with them, and had come all the way from Christchurch to attend the reunion. Mr Cowie proceeded to touch upon the traditions of the school which had been well upheld by ex-pupils, who had been singularly lucky in having studied under the masters and teachers they had had. The same might he said in respect to tho staff of the present day, the same spirit, having prevailed throughout. Referring to the war, he said that our own country had got hs chance during that period, and had built up traditions, the roll of honour proving that' tho people of this country had taken a distinguished part in the great conflict. Regarding the association itself, although the support of tho young people was not just what they desired, the time would come when they would leave school, and when they were older tho association would appeal to them in a way it did not do now. In the meantime, during those humdrum days, they were committed to keep them alive, and in case of any topical event occurring, such as the opening of the new school, they had the organisation at hand to make a success of it. Ho mentioned that, a number of apologies had been received, including one from Colonel and Mrs Moir, both past teachers in the Albany Street School, and one from Mr W. J. Thompson, chairman of tho : School Committee. Ho also referred to tho fact that they had with them Mr J. A. P. brederic, dux of the school in 1880.

The vocalists of tho evening were Misses N. Boyle, Alison Tyne, Olga Wynne, and Mr A. W. Alloo. A recitation was given bv Miss Audrey Watson, and an instrumental item by Masters Jack Doig and George Coxhead. The accompaniments weer played by Miss Williams and Mrs Doig. " The dance proved very enjoyable.
