Mrs J. Greenfield has returned to Dunedin from a visit to Auckland.

Miss D. Warren (‘Lake Wakatipu Mail’) is at present in Dunedin.

Mrs Ferguson (president of the Leith Ladies’ Bowling Club) invited members to tea at the Tudor Hall, when a very pleasant hour was spent. Miss Dippie thanked the hostess for her kind hospitality.

Prior to her leaving Macanclrew’s Bav to take up her residence in St. Clair Mrs John M'Donald entertained some of her Bay friends at afternoon tea on Monday. Among the guests were Mesdames Coll Macdonald, Budd (Christchurch) Emanuel, Patrick, Budd, K. Emanuel, and Miss Anderson.

The ladies’ section of the Leith Bowling Club held its fourth annual meeting in the pavilion. The president, Mrs Ferguson, was in the chair. After the report and balance-sheet had been adopted tho president thanked the officebearers and members for their support during her term of office. The following office-bearers were elected for the coming year;—President, Miss Dippie; vice-president. Mrs Ebcrliardt; acting secretary, Mrs Knowles; treasurer, Mrs M‘ln tyre; committee—Mesdames Hutchison, Roycroft, Johnstone; selector, Mrs Hutchison: delegates to Centre, Mesdames Johnstone and Eberhardt.

The monthly social gathering of Every Girl’s Club was held on Thursday in the club room. Y.W.C.A. The Knox Church Auxiliary Club was responsible for the programme, which was a most enjoyable one. Charades, competitions, games; and dancing formed the chiel items. At the conclusion of the evening prior to supper being served Miss Reid, on behall of the club, passed a henrtv vote of thanks to Miss Young and tier friends for providing such a splendid programme.

The Mayoress (Mrs R. S. Black) was “ At Homo ” on Monday afternoon in the Town Hall to a largo gathering ol those prominent in philanthropic work in the city to meet Miss Ethel Law, national secretary of the Y.W.C.A. in New Zealand, who is hero on a vis;t. Mrs Black, in a few well-chosen words, introduced tho guest of honour, and presented her with a beautiful bouquet of orchids and purple heather. Miss Law thanked the Mayoress, and said that she considered a great honour had been paid to her association, in that her first public reception should be by the Mayoress in the Town Hall. She thei spoke of tho world-wide import ance of the conference in Budapest wliieh she attended last year as the New Zealand delegate, at which fortytwo nationalities had been represented, and of the great forward movement ol tin Y.W.C.A. ns a world association. Afternoon tea was served, and the .guests wr-a gi.cn tho opportunity of meeting Miss Law.

To celebrate the twenty-first birth day of Miss Lcxie Maearthur a very delightful dance was given on Monday evening at the residence of Mr and Mrs James Park, Grendon street, which was beautifully decorated foi the occasion with greenery and brightly coloured streamers. Mrs J. M. S. Maearthur received the guests in the lounge, wear ing a dainty black and gold lace frock. She was assisted by Miss Lesie in blue georgette and lace, with bcfrilled tulle skirt daintily embroidered in pink roses. Among the guests were Mr and Mrs J. Park, Mr and Mrs A. Lavender, Mr and Mrs A. Thompson, Mrs A. A. M'Gibbon (Gore), Mrs H. M'Farlane. Mrs K. Glasgow, Misses F. Maearthur (cyclamen and gold), H. Glasgow (blue taffeta), P. The annual meeting of the ladies’ section of the Morningtou Bowling Club was held in the pavilion, when there was a good attendance of members. The animal report and balancesheet were adopted, the following officers being elected for the ensuing season:—President, Mrs H. Wood; vicepresident, Mrs A. Walker; secretary, Mrs J. Wallace, committee—Mesdames J. Smith, Bennet, A. Boatwood, R. Morrison, Whale; selector, Mrs Brown ; Ties Committee, Mesdames Morrison ami Walker; delegates to centre, Mesdames Wood and Wallace.

On Saturday evening the Otago Ladies’ Bowling Club held another of its winter entertainments. Tho Vedic was chosen for tho function, the evening being devoted to dancing.- Mr W. Scott added to the evening’s enjoyment by contributing several vocal items.

The Dunedin Bowling Club held an enjoyable social evening in the club’s pavilion, which was most tastefully decorated with greenery for the occasion. Musical and elocutionary items were contributed by Mrs Claridge, Mrs Archibald, and Dr Hendry. Euchre was played during the early part of the evening, tho prizes being won by Miss G. Bolwell, Mr Fred Peake, Airs J. H. Fraser, and Mr J. MTvay. After supper dancing was continued until 12 o’clock.
