GIANT LOUSE WANTED BY MUSEUM
ABORTIVE SEARCH IH UGANDA The Uganda Game Department reports receiving an urgent, request from the British , Museum for specimens _of the giant louse which is believed to live deep in the crevices of elephants’ hides. The department has examined a number ot elephants, but so far hae failed to discover any louse. The same report records attempts by the department* to ascertain tho number of white, rhinoceros still existing. A careful census discloses that there are about 130 of these. Tho report records a particularly despicable case of tormenting a lion by Europeans for the purpose of photography. The excuse made was That the animal was a menace in the neighbourhood, but this was disproved by the strange fact that the natives ■ were well aware of the lion’s habits and never molested it, because it was friendly to the natives, always allowing them io take a portion of its kill.
