PICKETING A FUNERAL

COACH DRIVERS ON STRIKE. Members of the Drivers’ Automobile Union in Jersey City recently went on strike, and their president, Mr William Roach, issued a statement that if necessary he would stop all’ motor hearse funerals in the country. To prove that his words were no idle threat, stinkers picketed a funeral and delayed the service for an hour by persuading eleven drivers to desert with their limousines from a lino of seventeen vehicles waiting outside a bereaved home. While the family of the dead person . stood on the pavement waiting to enter the ears, the pickets engaged in furious arguments with the six drivers who remained loyal. The undertaker secured police protection, and telephoned to his friends to come to the rescue with their own motor cars. These vehicles did duty in the procession. The pickets then rushed off to {mother funeral, but found a strong force of,, police' awaiting .them.
