THE SHARE MARKET DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. ACTIVITY IN BREWERY SHARES. The principal feature of the local Stock Exchange during the past week has been ine considerable number ot dealings in the shares oi the jNew Zealand Breweries, Ltd. A large number of sales eventuated yesterday afternoon at 72s 3d, and this price was improved on this morning, when there were live sales at 72s fid. The announcement of the Bank of New Zealand dividend of Is 4d per share and a bonus of 1 per cent, improved prices of this stock to buyers at fi2s 9d with no seller. The balance-sheet shows an increased profit for the year of £4-9,873, but a portion of this is absorbed in tbo payment of the interest on additional ‘"G” issue and “D ” issue shares. The reserve fund has been increased by £275,0C0, and now stands at £3,425,000. There has not been any marked charge during the week in other stocks. Union Banks were inquired for this morning at 15gs, but sellers required £ls 16s 6d. The buyers’ quote for Westport Coals improved to 33s 3d, ex div., without revealing a seller. After receding to 50s during the week Goldsbrougb, Morts showed a sale reported at 50s 9d this morning, with buyers offering 50s 6d for further parcels without sellers. New Zealand Contributing issue shares were asked for at 7s 5d without result. Donaghy’s Ropes have not been on offer during the week, but buyers are on the market at 355. The closing quotations for Breweries shares were; Buyers 72s 3d, sellers 73s 6d. A slight improvement has occurred in Kildares, with buyers at 3s 10il and sellers asking Id more. The only Government Debentures offered for sale were the 1938 stock, quoted at £IOO 2s 6d. The other issues had buyers quoting at late rales. FRUIT AND PRODUCE Bray Bros,, Ltd,, report as follows for the week ended to-day:— Very little business has transpired during the week in the chaff market, and the result is that a good deal arriving on the market has been placed in stores. Best quality is worth £5 10s per ton, sacks included, ex truck. Reports from the North go to show that the Blenheim market is very firm, and North Island requirements are being drawn from Canterbury, where quotations are about os per ton below the prices for the Marlborough chaff. The position with the oat market remains unchanged. The current quotation is 3s 6d, f.0.b., s.i., for A Gartons, and 3s 3d for B’s. There arc no changes in the price of milling wheat —namely, 5s lOd lor Tuscan, 6s for Hunters, and 6s 6d for Velvet, sacks extra, on trucks, country sidings. The supply of fowl wheat is more than equal to the demand. Best quality is worth 5s IDd per bushel, sacks extra, ex store. There is a fair quantity of damaged wheat about, but there is little demand for it, even at low prices. prices are as follow: —Flour, 200’s £l6 15s, 100’s £l7 15s, 60’s £lB, 25’s £lB 10s; bran, £7; pollard, £8 10s; oatmeal, 25’s £25 10s, 200’s £24 10s. The potato market remains practic ally the same as last week. A fair quantity of tubers reaching the market are blighted, and these have been diffi cult to quit. Best quality 'is worth up to £6 to £6 10s per ton. The shipping value from Canterbury- is £5 7s 6d per ton, f.0.b., s.i., prompt shipment.

Business has been quiet in the onion market. Canterbury-grown are now offering from 6s 6d to 7s per cwt for best lines.

The honey market is a little firmer. Some fine samples of clover honey are coming to hand, and are being readily placed at od per lb. Hams aod bacon

are in good supply, and the market firm. The egg market advanced 2d per dozen. The wholesale price is now 2s Id and 2s 2d per dozen for guaranteed fresh eggs. Business in the fruit marts has been quiet during the week. Apples are still offering in fair quantities, and sales are slow. The market is overstocked with inferior grade. .-These are practically unsaleable. A small shipment of Australian fruit, consisting of oranges and mandarines, arrived by the Ivaretu, and sold at satisfactory prices. The Waipiata is due to-morrow with a consignment of Island fruit ex Makura, and should meet with a read* sale. The Manuka is due early next week with a consignment of Australian fruits. . ' , Vegetables have been in good supply, and prices moderate. Vegetable marrows and pumpkins have been slow of sale. The following prices were realised during the week:-

GRADING FIGURES. [Pee United Press Association.] ■WELLINGTON, June 7. The Dairy Division grading figures for tlio nine months ended April show an increase lor butter of 9.9 per cent., at 79,638 tons, and for cheese an increase of 14.3 per cent, at 84,064 tons, as compared with the corresponding period of the preceding season. Reduced to terms of butter-fat, the equivalent gradings of dairy produce for the nine months show an increase of 10 24 per cent, over the gradings for the corresponding period of the preceding season.
