PURSY KNOCKED OUT SYDNEY, June 7. At the Leichhardt Stadium Wally Hancock (Hist l(-lb) knocked out Charlie Purdy (New Zealand, lUst Till)) in the J'ourtli round. Hancock thus won the welter championship from the New Zealander. The contest was sensational. Purdy was the better boxer, but Hancock, who was very confident, used a right and left to the chin freely, while Purdy went for file body, crouched low, and escaped ranch punishment. Purdy opened Hancock’s eye in the third, and Hancock hied freely. The fourth round opened full of promise. Hancock went after the New Zealander, and landed successive rights and lefts to Purdy’s chin, which always seemed to be unguarded. Purdy dropped to the boards near the end of the round.
