MINISTER ON TOUR
MR DE LA PERRELLE AT ORWELL [From Our CoRRUSPOXDiixT.] CROMWELL, June S. The Hoii. P, A. do la Pci-rellc made a brief stay at Cromwell at noon yesterday, travelling from Alexandra to Queenstown. He was appropriately welcomed and congratulated by the mayor (Mr Roberts), who also asked the Minister’s support to many important questions recently represented to the Minister. A happy function was a visit to the District High School, where the Minister was shown the need for further accommodation to meet the progress and increasing attendance at the school. Ho expressed recognition of what was required, and, promised his support.
The Minister thereafter delivered an instructive address to the children, and urged them to take the fullest advantage of their education, so that they might develop into worthy citizens of a great country. Three hearty cheers were given, more hearty by reason of Mr Perrclle pronouncing for a half-holiday. With Mi* Keliher, the departmental officer, and members of the Cromwell Jockey Club, the racecourse was visited. Both expressed satisfaction at the improvements being made. They had an encouraging word for the club, and hoped in the near future, by assistance from the Gaming Bill, to give muchneeded assistance to the country club.
