GRAIN AND PRODUCE

Donald Reid and Co., Ltd., report as under-

Oats.—-The recent rains took their toll of the grain crops in this district. Roth oats and wheat that promised so well before the flood are now arriving in poor condition. B grade and undergrade are now offering more freely, hut sales are not taking place with any freedom. Heavy oats suitable for milling are worth up to 3s Id; ordinary A grade, to 2s lid; JB grade, 2s 8d (sacks extra), on truck country stations. Chaff.—The demand still remains about the same. Probably next month, when tho frosts appear, the inquiry will improve. Values are easier thing. Prime quality is worth £5 10s (sacks extra), ex truck, Dunedin. Medium and inferior are practically unsaleable.

Potatoes.—Consignments are arriving in excess of the demand, and only good qualitv tables arc inquired for. Lines that‘have been saturated with water or arc blighty are unsaleable. Best tables are realising up to £5 ss, ex truck (sacks in). Wheat.—Forward purchases are arriving freely, and as a. lot of these arc in a soft condition a larger proportion of rejections is taking place _ than usual. Free wheat is also offering, and pool members arc also submitting .samples. Local mills are busy taking in consignments, and the market on the whole is quite animated. Fowl wheat will now ho in more plentiful supply than was anticipated earlier in the season. Prices to-day arc as follow;—Tuscan, 5s Sd; Hunters, 6s; Velvet, 6s 6d (sacks extra), on truck, country stations. SALES ON ’CHANGE: THIS DAY.
