The Hon. T. K. Sidey lias relumed for tin; Otago University Council meeting to-morrow. Mr H. Hitchman, who has been associated with the Brethren in Dunedin,’ as evangelist and teacher, for many rears, was farewellcd on the railway station ibis morning, being about to leave for England. A Sydney cable, message, states that Superintendent W. IT. Chi ides succeeds Superintendent Mitchell as Commissioner of Police for New South Wales. Air W. J. Morrell and Mr Cohn Ouray left this morning for AVcllingtou to" attend the _ meeting of a special committee appointed by the New Zealand University Council to deal with scholarship and degree results. Air James A. Winetield, Tomahawk, lias been gazetted a justice ot the
peace. A farewell social was held in the Mosgiol Methodist Church in honour of the Rev. Mr and Mrs Duncan, who have been transferred to the North Island. Mr J. B. Brown occupied the chair. A pleasant evening was passed in games, music, and recitations. During the programme Mr and Airs Duncan were each presented willy a M.osgic! rug as a mark of appreciation of their work in the district. The latest guests at the Grand Hotel include Messrs H. 0. Jones and bred, Prosser (London), Miss A. Lcvick (San Francisco), Mr and Mrs A. B. Parsons (Halifax), Mr and Mrs_ ltd* ward Houchins (Sydney), Mrs K. C. Norwood (Auckland), Messrs R. B. Lind, C. J. Townley, S, B. Henderson, and J. B. Oliver (Wellington), Mr T. L. Hawkcs (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs James limes. Miss Campbell (Timarn), Mr and Mrs Robert Stout, Mr M. W. Ferguson (Invercargill). New visitors to the Excelsior Hotel include Messrs S. Ramsay, J. Bryan, and C. Hebb (Wellington), Miss R. Boyce, Messrs W. R. Teapc and G. R. Parkinson (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs C. W. Talbot (Timaru), Mr G. S. Jarvis (Winton).
