ST. CLAIR SCHOOL

ATHLETIC SUCCESSES In honour of the St. Clair School again winning: the Primary Schools’ Sports’ Association’s Championship Shield at athletics, the committee has decided to entertain the boys to-morrow _ morning at 11 o'clock. A function will bo held _ at the school, speeches will be given, and a half holiday declared. In the afternoon the athletic team will be entertained at the Empire Theatre, and afterwards to tea at the Vedic. The Primary Schools’ Shield competition was established in 1919, when Forbury School won the shield. In 1.922, St. Clair School came well to the front, losing the shield by one point to Oamaru South School, the respective points being 29 and 30. In 1923, St. Clair non the shield, but in 1924 bad to be satisfied with the position of runuers-up to Ma can drew Road. From 1925 onwards, St. Clair has never failed to reach the _ highest points, the shield, however, in 1927, going to the Maeandrew Rond School, which tied with St. Clair in points, but had gained a greater number of first places. Tims, in eleven competitions, this school has the wonderful record of having won the shield five times, being runners-up three times.
