Those motor cyclists who took part in the run to Waimato last November will he looking forward to the similar run to Balelntha next Saturday. The party will leave the club rooms, Moray place, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, and the committee hopes that those taking part will meet there and make this function a fit and proper club run. Ju order to make arrangements lor accommodation members arc asked to give their names to the secretary at the monthly meeting on Wednesday night. Entry forms for the Southland Club s beach races on April 20 may he obtained from the secretary of the motor cycle section. This club is putting on both ear and cycle races, and it is to be hoped that Otago riders and drivers will bring homo some of the trophies. Without a doubt Oreti Beach is the finest beach for racing in New Zealand. BOAT-SHAPED SIDECAR. “ Although relatjvely few sidecars were exhibited in the motor cycle show at the Melbourne Town Hall, the machines were all possessed of ample power to support subsidiary carriers. His Excellency the Governor (Lord Somers), who opened the show, remarked that ho had seen motor cycles with sidecars carrying as many as nine or ten persons apiece on the roads in holiday time. _ Lord Somers inspected the machines at, tho show in detail, and he was particularly interested in a single-seated carrier, built with some ingenuity to resemble a motor launch, which was displayed on the B.S.A. Company’s stand. Ihe carriage closely follows the lines of a police patrol launch, and it was stated to he. tho most valuable sidecar vet built in Australia. It was attached to one of the B.S.A. - Hush, Hush ”• machines. OBTAINING A LOW RIDING POSITION. The graceful lines of _ many modern mar-hiiKis arc often obtained simply b,\ a slight lowering of the riding position, and owners ol old machines with standard pan seats must' occasionally wonder if it is possible to set the saddle a few inches lower without altering tho frame. The following method has been adopted wtih success on a machine fitted with the standard type of saddle First of all. by filing away one end of tho rivet at the peak and removing the securing bolts for the rear springs, the “ chassis ” of the saddle was _ removed. •Next, two pieces of angle iron (approximately 5-Sin x 5-Sin x|in) wore obtained and bolted one above and one below the saddle stays; those can ho fitted in any desired position. Ihen (ho naked springs were attached to the two end holts, and tho front ol the saddle attached to a clip fitted on the upper tank rail in such a manner as lo allow tho necessary movement.
