—Ministerial.— The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) arrived from the north by the express last evening, on route for Invercargill, and ivns mot at the railway station by a large number of his friends and supporters. Owing to the flood conditions Sir Joseph was unable to proceed further south than Mosgiel, and at about 11 o’clock his party returned to Dunedin and spent the night at the Grand Hotel. Shortly alter 1U o’clock this morning he left ior the south by the express. Accompanying the Prime Minister were his three sons —Messr Vincent, Cyril, and Gladstone Ward. The Hon. T. M. Wilford (Minister of Justice and Defence), the Minister of Railways (the flon. W. B. Taverner), and the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. P. A. De la Perrelle) Went south by the express this morning to attend the banquet to be held, at Invercargill to-night in honour of Sir Joseph Ward. Air W. J. Bardsley returned to Dunedin from the north by the afternoon express yesterday' after a period oi convalescence at Rotorua. Mr J. J. Clark, who has been seriously ill for the last ten days, hopes to lie about soon again. The following appointments of student demonstrators for the autumn term were made by the University Council yesterday on the recommendation of the snb-dean of the medical faculty;—Clinical demonstrators in medicine, Alessrs Stevenson and AI axwell ; pathology, Alessrs Stall worthy and Howie; bacteriology, Alessrs ..Maxwell and Irwin.

On 11 10 recommendation of the W .E.A. the University Council yesterday made the following appointment of tutors: — Miss M. 11. King (literature, twenty lectures): Ven. Archdeacon Whitehead (philosophy, twenty-four lectures) ; Mr Turner (natural science, twelve lectures) ; Dr Holloway (natural science, twelve, lectures) ; Dr Galway (music, twenty-four lectures); Mr M‘ Donald, Oamaru (Pad lie problems, twelve lectures). Dr D'Ath, the newly-appointed professor of pathology at the Otago University, was officially welcomed by members of the University Council at the monthly meeting yesterday afternoon. The Chancellor (the Hon. T. K. Hidey) said that Dr D‘Alh was like one >f themselves, and he had come back to them in a much more responsible capacity than formerly. On behalf of the council he wished him every success in his I'ntnre work. The death at Auckland is announced of Mr T. A. Loncrgan, aged sixty-two, formerly a well-known dentist in Auckland. He was born at Auckland, the son of a pioneer settler who arrived in 1802 with the, 32nd Regiment. After attending the Catholic High School he was apprenticed to Air Trafford in the city, and passed his final examinations at Otago University in 1888. For many years he was soloist in St, Patrick's Cathedral choir, and was also interested in choral work- while living in the south. He is survived by a brother and three sisters. 'A London Press Association cable message slates that the Hon. Edmund Parker has been elected chairman of the Union Dank of Australia. A Stratford Press Association telegram announces the death of Air A. j. Harr, secretary of the. Stratford A. and P. Association, following an attack of pneumonia. Air Slrachan, chief inspector of the Wellington district, gave, notice to the Wellington Education Hoard that he intended resigning. The chairman and members of the board referred in eulogistic terms to the work of Air Slrachan in the interests of education and lo the cordial relations that existed between Air Slrachan and the board. —Press Association telegram.
