MOTOR CYCLE RACES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—-Your correspondent, " Interested,’’ js at a loss to know why the speeds attained at Forbury Bark motor cycle races do not compare with those obtained in the North Island. I would like to point out that the majority of tracks used in the North Island measure at least one mile in circumference. whereas For bury Park is only a live-furlong track, and the length of the straights, naturally limit the speed. The tracks used in the North are usually grass, which affords better tyre adhesion than the loose suriace of the local track, ami consequently allows higher speeds to be attained. In fairness to the local riders, J doubt very much whether the North Island "cracks’’ could improve the speeds to any great extent, under the same conditions.—l am, etc., L. If. Johnson, Hon. See. Motor Cvcle Section. March J 9.
