»■ ■ MONTHLY MEETING _ The monthly meeting of the Education Board was held this morning, there being present the chairman (Mr J. Wallace), Messrs R S. H. Todd, W. R. Brugh, P. M'Kinlay, J. Smith, J. Horn, G. Livingstone, and J. H. Wilkinson, and the Hon. D. T. Fleming. The committee of the Broad Bay School forwarded a letter protesting against the use of the old school for infants.—To be informed that an additional room is on the list of urgent works, and that the committee would assist the board by securing better temporary accommodation. The Brighton Committee wrote requesting assistance in the conveyance of pupils attending the Technical School and the High School.—The board considered that the children might bo given the equivalent of free tickets where a railway is available. The committee was recommended to apply to the High School and Technical boards. The Minister of Education advised that a grant of up to £2O for the purpose of providing a hot mid-day meal tor the children had been approved. The department advised that its policy in respect of the establishment of S. VII. in primary schools was the same as prior to the repeal of the regulation regarding this matter. It stated that in a country school such at Clinton, pupils who had proficiency should continue to attend the South Otago High School; in a sole teacher school from which then was no means of,attending the high school or district high school, the board might arrange for n. S. VIJ. class, and in a city school pupils who had proficiency should attend a post-primary school within easy reach.—Noted The department also advised that tno Minister was prepared to agree that attendance at recognised musical examinations should count as attendance at school, and that iho regulations would be amended in due course to give effect to this decision.—Noted.
