UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS
EVENING MEETING Tlie last of the amateur athletic evening meetings was held on the Caledonian Ground last evening, when the University Club held a fixture comprising three track events and one cycling race. There was a lair attendance. The weather was lino but dull, and though an early start was made the light soon Tailed, and the final event was run in semi-darkness. There were good fields In all the events, and some close finishes were seen. No time was taken in any of the events. The following are the results:— IUO YARDS HANDICAP.. First heat; S. Duncan (3yds) 1, E. N. Smith (syds) 2, C. Tracey (11yds) Second heat: P. G. Ward (12yds) 1, F. W. Gray (9yds) 2, C. J. Thompson (oyds) 3. -—Final. — Duncan »1 .Smith 2 Thompson 3 Won on the tape, with Thompson close up. 300 YARDS HANDICAP. It. N. Smith (15yds) 1 C. Tracer (2ovds) 2 F. W. Gray (18yds) 3 There wore eleven starters. Won by a yard, with 2yds between second and third. 1,000 YARDS HANDICAP. N. .11. North (3t'ivds) .1. • , F. North ; took the lead going down the back i stretch in the last lap and was never headed, winning by about 3yds, wdth i n .similar distance between second and I third. 1 ONE MILE CYCLE HANDICAP. Second heat; Fraser (120yds) 1, Deans (190yds) 2, Taylor (130yds) 3. j A close finish half a length separating 1 the three placed men. —Final.— Deans 1 Rennie 2 'Taylor 3 Deans wont to the front down the back stretch in the final lap, and had a good lead at the bend approaching the straight. Ho maintained his advantage and won comfortably.
