Mr E. Aslin left by the express tins morning, en route for England. The appointment of Mr Ou Tsin-shuin as Chinese Consul at Wellington was gazetted last night Dr J. B. Coudliffc, who gave a lecture in Dunedin last night on ‘ Pacific Relations,’ will leave lor the north tomorrow.

Mr W. S. Laidlaw returned to Dunedin by the express from the north yesterday afternoon after a short visit to Christchurch.

In the absence of the minister, who had been detained in Christchurch, the chair was occupied by Mr E. A. Rosevear. After a short, musical programme supper was handed round, and a very pleasant evening was spent. The chairman voiced the mind of the office-bearers and the memhgrs of the church in wishing the two gentlemen godspeed and every blessing in their visit, and a safe retur.n to Dunedin. W. Mindo, who has been transferred to Christchurch as the firm’s engineering representative. Mr Mindo’s successor IMr J. M. Patrick) referred to Mr Mindo’s departure for a wider sphere of activity and usefulness, and said that he took with him the good wishes of all present for his future .success. A presentation of a handsome case of pipes (suitably inscribed) was then made by Mr Patrick. Mr Mindo suitably responded, thanking his old associates for their gift and for the kindly spirit that prompted such expression of their goodwill and friendship. Bone, who has been promoted from the managership of the North Dunedin branch of the National Bank of New Zealand. Ltd., to a similar position at. Nelson, was entertained at the Ved'ic Tea Rooms on Wednesday last by the bank’s customers, among whom were several ladies. A venr pleasant evening was spent, during which Mr E. F. Dulhic presented Mr Bone with a gold watch suitably inscribed, and Dr Newlauds presented Mrs Bone with a china coffee service mi a pewter tray. The gifts were appropriately acknowledged by Mr Bone Advantage was taken of the opportunity to introduce Air J. R. Weir, th« new manager at North Dunedin. After supper a number of toasts were hou cured. The proceedings werc_ enlivened by musical and elocutionary items contributed by Messrs W. B. Lambert. W. L. Booth, T. Baucbop, M. O’Sullivan, and Allan Young. Mr W. Easton was accompanist. Mr W. R. Hayward was ch.-iii man.

The deceased was about town yesterday morning, and suffered si •seizure at his home in Wellington late in the afternoon, dying in the Public Hospital half an hour after admission. The body is being taken to-night to Ruahiwi, Ivaiapoi, for burial. Air Srn was fifty-seven years old. In his younger days ho was a noted athlete, proficient at cycling, wrestling, and football. Ho was native agent for twenty-live years, and -was elected to Parliament, in 3922.
