The fire brigade received three calls this morning, the first one being at 12.15 to Hereford street, where a seven-roomed, two-storied, wooden dwelling, owned by Mrs Washer and occupied by Mrs Joyce, had caught fire n the bottom story. The bottom portion of the house was gutted, and the rest was damaged by fire, smoke, and water. The building was insured in the National office for £2OO. The next call was at 9.33, when there was an automatic false alarm from Kempthorne, Prosser, and Co.’s warehouse. At 10.14 the third call was received to Main South road, Cavershaxn. A 21,ton truck, owned by George Nash, 79 Bay View-road, had caught fire through back-firihg in the carburettor. Tqe wiring was badly damaged. It was insured for £350 in the Royal Exchange. A song may make a fox trot. But neither song nor fox trot will make a car go. It takes Big Tree for that, but the oar goes with & song.—[Advt.]
