The Corinna, which arrived Irom Wellington yesterday morning, sailed last night for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth. The Karetu was to sail this alteronou for Oamaru, Bluff, Melbourne, and Sydney. i The Opibi is timed to sail at 10 o’clock to-night for West port direct. The Kekerangu, which arrived from Auckland via ports yesterday- afternoon, berthed at the cross wharf to discharge and load general cargo. She is to sail to-night for Timaru, Lyttelton, and Auckland. , The Wingatui sailed from Auckland on Tuesday afternoon willy general cargo for discharge at Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, being due here about March 12. The Gale is expected on Saturday from Lyttelton to load for Timaru, Lvttelton; Wellington, and Wanganui. ‘The Calm is due here on Sunday to load on Monday- for Timoru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The C. and D. Line steamer Port Melbourne arrived at Wellington last Sunday from Napier, and continued loading for London. arrived at Wellington yesterday from Auckland, and will leave again to-morrow for Melbourne and' Sydney, thence lip and A ancouver. The Waihemo sailed from; Los Angeles on February 23, and is due at Auckland on March 19, thence Wellington, Melbourne,' and Sydney. THE FERRY SERVICE.

The Wahine, from Wellington, reached Lyttelton at 7 this •morning, and her southern passengers and mails connected with the express. CARGO FROM LIVERPOOL. The Federal Company advises that the Norfolk, which is to leave Liverpool on March 16 for New Zealand, will not now discharge at New Plynioutli. She will - unload nfc Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, and Port Chalmers. PERSONAL. Captain S. P. Martin has resumed command of the Ivaitoa after holiday, relieving Captain 3. Mazlin. Catpain F. A. Alcich is in command of the Indianola, which _ arrived at Auckland on Saturday .with a cargo of basic slag from Antwerp, and the following are his officers:—Chief, Mr W. H. Roberts: second, Mr C. Higgins; third, Mr G. Sykes; chief engineer, Mr E. Ward; second, Mr j, Sutherland; third, Mr J. M. Brown; fourth, Air W. Toner. port curtis Leaves, panama. A cable message to the C. and D. Line states that the Port Curtis left Panama on March 2 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, en route from New York. • The vessel is due at Auckland on March 24. CANADIAN "WINNER’S MOVE--1 ■ MENTS. ■ The Canadian National, steamer Canadian Winner has reported by wireless that she would arrive at Auckland from Halifax to-day. The -vessel is bringing general merchandise for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton. Timaru. and Dunedin, being due here about March 25. She will then commence loading for New York. ' WAIRUNA TO LOAD. The Wairuna left. Fanning Island on February 28 for Vancouver, where she is due on March 16, She will proceed thence to San Francisco and Los Angeles to commence loading for Auckland,, ■ Napier, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, and New Plymouth. She will leave Los Angeles on April 8, WAIKOUAITI DUE ON SUNDAY. The Union Company advises that the Waikouaiii, which loaded general cargo at Newcastle and Sydney, left Sydney on Tuesday afternoon direct for Dunedin. It is expected that she will arrive at Port Chalmers on Sunday morning. She will discharge portion of her cargo and will then proceed to, Lyttelton and Timaru to complete discharge. MOTOR SHIPS INCREASING. Five times as many motor ships were built in •1928 as there were m 1923. In vessels exceeding 1,000 tons, the following are the figures: In 1923, 61; 1924, 87; 1925, 126; 1926, 131; 1927, 137; 1928, 189. Last year 40 per cent, of the world’s output was built in Great Britain, an increase of 7 per cent, over 1927. The principal other countries building motor ships are’ Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Italy. At the end of 1928 there were 2-70 motor ships on order, with a gross tonnage of 1,443,000.
