VALEDICTORY
A number of members of the Art Gallery Council assembled in the Somerset Lounge, Savoy Buildings, yesterday afternoon for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mrs E. C. Reynolds, who, in company with Mr Reynolds, will leave next week on a trip to England. Mr J. Loudon (president of the council) staled that the of the council felt that they could nob let Mrs Reynolds go away without showing their appreciation of what she had done for the society over a period of very many years. She had seen the gallery grow until it was now of substantial dimensions, and she could justly take credit for a considerable Vhare of the success attained. Mrs Reynolds had been one of the most consistent and hardest workers for the advancement of art in Dunedin, and those who had had the pleasure of sitting with her had always recognised her as a tower of strength. . Ho was sure that she was quite proud of the gallery. They wished to show their affection and esteem for her and to wish her a pleasant trip to the Old Land and a safe return to New Zealand. With her happy disposition and sincere regard for other people’s opinions he had no doubt that she would have a happy time. It had been stated that in this world one usually got what one gave, and if Mrs Reynolds got what she gave she would be quite rich. They sincerely hoped that she would have the best of health, and that she would come hack with new ideas for the benefit of others. Mr Loudon then presented Mrs Reynolds with a clock as a memento of the esteem in which she was held. Sir John Roberts, one of the oldest members of the society, said they hid always received invaluable help from Mrs Reynolds. He extended to her his best wishes, and expressed the hope that she would derive great benefit from her trip. Mrs Reynolds said she wished to thank them very sincerely for their kind wishes. Any efforts she had made on behalf of the society had given her great pleasure. She hoped to extend her knowledge while slie was away and be able to help the society again when she returned.
