THE AUSTRALIAN DISPUTE CLIMAX IN MELBOURNE. Presa Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, January 31. The timber workers’ dispute over Mr Justice Lukin’s award, which provides for a forty-eight-hour working week instead of Forty-four, came to a head in Victoria this morning, when members of the union in three of the biggest timber yards in the metropolitan area failed to respond to the 7.30 whistles to start work, after which they found tho doors locked against them. The yards affected are those of John Sharp and Sons, Ltd., James Moore and Sons Proprietary, Ltd., and Millers Timber and Trading Company, Ltd., all of which are in South Melbourne. EFFORT TO AVERT EXTENSION. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright CANBERRA, January 31. Making an effort to avert an extension of the timber dispute, the Attor-ney-General (Mr J. G. Latham) and Senator Ogden, of the Department of Industry, are going to Melbourne tonight.
