LARGE CROWDS TRAVELLING RUSH SETS IN With Christmas hut a day or two off thousands of people are beginning to look forward to the joys of seaside, river, and rural lilc, and throughout the week railway traffic has been busy. ■ Yesterday the rush started in earnest, all trains, inwards and outwards, being fully loaded. The 8.35 a.m. to Invercargill yesterday carried 300 passengers, and a similar number was aboard the 8.40 a.in. to Christchurch. The 11.34 a.m. express from Invercargill to Christchurch 1 had 550 passengers aboard when it lott Dunedin yesterday, and the through express to Invercargill last night carried 450 passengers on leaving Dunedin. The night express from Christchurch, ' which reached Dunedin at 6.22 this morning, carried 200 passengers, and there were 700 passengers on the 5.35 a.m. express to Invercargill. By the 8.40 train tin's morning there were 60(1 passengers for Christchurch, and the 9.5 special carried 350. The through express from Invercargill, due at 11.10, was 51 min late in reaching Dunedin, owing to the heavy traflic, and it left here with 600 passengers aboard. Other trains have had just as big a task in coping with the rush, and the express to Invercargill, which is due to leave here at 4.45, carried 350 passengers when it _ left Christchurch tin ; morning. It is anticipated that CO passengers will travel by this train ,1;» Invercargill. The express from Chrisichurch to Invcrcagill, duo to leave licrj at 5.43, will bring 470 passengers from Christchurch, ami it is expected that it will carry 500 to Invercargill.
